Credentials (writing): Author of six books; editor/sr writer of the Crappie Masters magazine; Seasonal Structure columnist and feature articles for CRAPPIE World magazine; regular in Outdoor Guide and MidSouth Hunting & Fishing News; seminars on crappie fishing; many past writing and photo credits with various magazines since 1988.
Sponsors: Mercury
Favorite memories: Fishing with my sons. Although their time in the boat was limited due to my work and their sports schedule, it was the best times. Deer camp.
Favorite technique: I've changed to pulling crankbaits as one of my favorites. My other is vertical jigging timber because I love to feel the thump and set the hook.
Equipment: Field testing a lot of different products has me switching back and forth a lot but here's what I'll normally be using on a fishing trip:
* Long poles: Grizzly Elite (for vertical jigging);  BnM Capps/Coleman poles for slow-trolling. Casting, longlining and deep vertical jigging gets the BnM Jim Duckworth Float & Fly 8-ft spinning. Spinning reels are Cardinals.
* Line: Mostly Vicious 6 or 8-lb test.
* Baits: I often use minnows on single and double-hook rigs. I like using a Road Runner head tipped with a minnow. I use Bandit crankbaits for trolling. For jigging I use a TeeZur jighead with whatever body is the hottest at the time, often a Southern Pro Umbrella or the new Capps/Coleman glow. Slider Grubs are used for casting. Crappie Nibbles and Kodiak Minnow Paste are also on my jigs all the time.
About my belief: Anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't preach to others. I go to church regularly but am not a Bible scholar. I don't always lead the life I should and I sometimes say things I regret. However, I try to do what's right, stand for what I believe and am not ashamed to say that I'm a Christian. God has blessed me with many great people and events in my life, helped me through some very tough times and provided the way for me to have eternal life.
Thank You: for visiting this website. I wish you good luck crappie fishing.
